The Shout3D Project Workflow
In this tutorial, we'll review the entire process by which Shout3D content is created and published on the Internet. We'll make it as simple as possible to make sure that you understand the big picture and see how all of the elements fit together.
The characteristic workflow of a Shout3D project runs like this:
- Create the 3D content
- Perform modeling, texturing, keyframe animation and scene layout (optionally including lights and cameras) in 3D Studio MAX or other 3D package.
- Export the content to .wrl or .s3d format
- MAX users will typically use the Shout 3D plugin to export to .s3d format. Other users must always export to VRML 2.0 (VRML 97) .wrl format. Hand-edit the .wrl or .s3d file, if necessary.
- Author user interactivity features
- Use existing applets or write your own in the Java programming language. In this tutorial we'll take a shortcut by using JavaScript to add interactivity to existing applets, rather than writing new ones. This will demonstrate the use of the Shout3D Java API (the classes and their methods) in a simple way. (Get the Shout Book to learn Java programming in Shout3D from the ground up.)
- Publish on the Web
- Prepare the finished project for uploading to a Web server using the Shout3D Wizard.
